It&rsquo;s probably one of the easiest ways to prevent millions of cancer cases each year&mdash;sunscreen. However, most of us still forget to slather on sunscreen. A&nbsp;recent study&nbsp;showed that just 14% of American men and 30% of American women regularly put sunscreen on their faces and other exposed skin before heading outside for more than an hour.
So what do you need to know about protecting your skin from the sun?
 Here are ten tips to remember as you finish the summer

<li>Use sunscreen every day, even if it&rsquo;s cloudy.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Apply at least one ounce of sunscreen (enough to fill a shot glass) at least 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Also, use a lip balm or lipstick that contains sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30.</li>
<li>Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB radiation. Make sure it is water resistant and has an SPF of 30 or higher. Other sunscreens may help keep you from sunburn, but they won&rsquo;t protect against skin cancer.</li>
<li>Reapply sunscreen every two hours. Reapply every hour if you are swimming or sweating.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Be extra careful around water and sand. These surfaces reflect the sun&rsquo;s damaging rays, which can increase your chance of sunburn.</li>
<li>Keep babies under six months old completely covered and in the shade.</li>
<li>Limit the time you&rsquo;re in the sun between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This is when the sun&rsquo;s rays are the most intense. Practice the shadow rule: if your shadow is shorter than you, the sun&rsquo;s rays are at their strongest, and you should find shade.</li>
<li>If possible, wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants. Dark clothing with tightly woven fabric blocks more sun than white or loosely woven fabrics. For additional protection, look for clothes made with unique sun-protective materials.</li>
<li>Accessorize with a hat that shades your face, neck, and ears and a pair of sunglasses. Sunglasses with&nbsp;lenses with 99% to 100% UV absorption provide optimal protection for the eyes and the surrounding skin.</li>
<li>Be even more cautious if you take medications that may make you more sensitive to the sun.&nbsp;These include specific antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, antifungals, blood pressure medications, and chemotherapies.</li>

But there are also sunburns, unexpected rainy weather, and sometimes big Gulf waves. We have five family beach vacation tips to ensure your holiday is as fun-filled and mishap-free as possible.

<li>Be wary of water conditions.</li>
</ol>
Water conditions tend to dictate if you will spend the day in the Gulf water, the waterfall pool, fountain pool, or Aqualand. Every day our beach care services set the flags according to the condition of the Gulf. The flags range from green (low hazard) to double red (water closed), to name a few. A strong undertow or large waves can be pretty scary; no matter your age, check the Gulf flag chart on your dresser so you can plan the day with your family.

<li>Apply sunscreen before and after reaching the beach.</li>
</ol>
You've packed the beach bag with towels, toys, hats, snacks, and sunscreen. But before you head out the door, be sure to slather your family with sunblock. Once you reach the beach, your kids will be antsy to jump in the water, and getting them covered won't be easy. Or, you might be so busy that you forget this critical step. It's important to remember to apply sun protection beforehand to ward off burns. Be sure to reapply often throughout the day, especially after sweating and swimming in the pool or Gulf.

A handy and helpful tip we have has to do with beach toys. Panama City Beach is a beach town, and one thing there is not a shortage of are beach shops. Our suggestion is to purchase your beach toys here; you can find anything you need for maximum beach fun, from sand toys and floats of all shapes and sizes; we are trying to save your car and suitcase from a lifetime of sand and salt. At the Holiday Inn Resort, we loan you beach toys at the towel desk on the pool deck. Our Tropical Market on the property also carries floats, beach toys, and even beach towels.&nbsp;

<li>Drink water and other hydrating beverages.</li>

Staying hydrated is especially important when you know you're going to be outside in the sun for long periods participating in activities like swimming, boogie boarding, or beach volleyball&mdash;stock up on bottled waters, coconut water, or drinks infused with electrolytes. Bring them along when you go to the beach or the pools, and make sure kids take breaks periodically to refuel.
As for mom and dad, Vacation beverages and beach-side beers are tempting, but they are dehydrating, too. If you want to indulge in an adult beverage by the Gulf, be sure to rehydrate afterward.

Chip&rsquo;s Seafood Grille&rsquo; is the BEST spot to get a Surf and Turf Burger with an incredible view of the Gulf of Mexico. The Surf and Turf Burger is an 8oz Wagyu Beef Burger with a Crispy Fried Caribbean Lobster Tail on top with lettuce, tomato, and red onion on a toasted brioche bun. They are served with housemade slaw and french fries, perfectly paired with a 30A Beach Blonde Ale. This burger will be Instagram famous! Chip&rsquo;s Seafood Grille is located on the Escape Deck at our own Holiday Inn Resort and is open seven days a week from 11 am-11 pm.

The British Eatery is a restaurant tucked into the west end of Panama City Beach. The owners moved to Florida from England to bring some flavor from across the pond. The &ldquo;Winston Churchill&rdquo; burger is our favorite among the ten burgers on their expansive menu. It features an Angus beef patty with mixed greens, tomato, white American cheese, and saut&eacute;ed onions on a brioche bun. This monstrosity features two 8oz Angus beef patties topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and crispy onions! Served with fries on the side and pairs perfectly with an ice-cold beer! The Wicked Wheel is open seven days a week, 11 am &ndash; 9 pm.

Patches is a local Navy spot; you can tell as soon as you walk in. This place has a great atmosphere and even better food. The &ldquo;Patches signature&rdquo; double bacon, egg, and cheeseburger is the star of the show here! It features provolone cheese, bacon, fried egg, and garlic basil aioli on top of two Angus beef patties on a homemade bun! You don&rsquo;t want to miss this burger! Patches are just a block from the beach on the east end of Panama City Beach. Patches are open seven days a week, 11 am &ndash; 12 am.

Burgers You Don’t Want to Miss in Panama City Beach

This experience usually takes about 2 hours, just enough time for the rain to hopefully clear up!&nbsp;The Grande Theatre in Pier Park features IMAX and D-BOX and has all the great movies you&rsquo;ve wanted to see! This is a great way to wait out the rain and catch that flick you&rsquo;ve been dying to see.
Ripley&rsquo;s Believe It or Not is a great stop for the whole family. Pull up to this enormous museum set to look like the titanic sinking, and the kids will go wild! You&rsquo;ll be amazed at what you see with fun interactive exhibits and weird finds around every corner! Ripley&rsquo;s also features a 7-D Moving Theater, a 3-D movie with moving seats, interactive gaming, and special effects.&nbsp;Emerald Coast Mirror Maze is 2,300 square feet of mirrors and has endless fun. The whole family will laugh, trying to find their way out of this seemingly infinite hallway of mirrors. Don&rsquo;t forget to test your shooting skills at laser tag! We know your family can drive you crazy, especially during vacation; get some payback! Featuring a 1,800-square-foot arena themed like a pirate ship.
Dave &amp; Busters opened their doors in Pier Park in 2014, and they&rsquo;ve been busy ever since! Grab lunch with the family, play games, and win prizes! Take advantage of the Kids Activities Center:
For many, a vacation with your family is sometimes a tricky balancing act. Not at the Holiday Inn Resort; we have a Kids Activity Center dedicated to that. They have activities scheduled every 30-45 minutes where they take the children either out to the beach for games or go into the activity center and play games. The parents get that Time to relax by the pool without worrying about the kids! The Girls and guys in the activity center are local high school kids that love to play and have fun! The daily Kids activities are free to guests.
Also offered in Kid&rsquo;s activities are the premium Activities:
Parents Time Out: 1 &frac12; hours during the day, the kids go into the activity center, have a snack, play games, and make arts and crafts. Parents get 1 &frac12; hours to go to the Seaglass Bar and head to the beach or pool for some alone time.&nbsp;(fee)

However, when asked, we like to tell guests, &ldquo;the higher you go, the better your view&rdquo; well, for some, that&rsquo;s true; it all depends on you and your crew. The lower floors are perfect if you enjoy people-watching, want a front-row seat to the Dive-in movie screen, like a great view of the Guest Exclusive Concerts, Polynesian Fire and Dance Show, and have smaller children that will want to hit the pool and Aqualand early. The middle floors would be great for the Dive-in Movies, Guest Exclusive Concerts, and if you have teenagers that may want to go down to the pool deck with friends to watch the movie since you can keep an eye on them! The upper-level rooms will give you a great un-unobstructed view of East and West down the beach, perfect for relaxing!

Resort Tips to get More Out of Your Vacation

When you walk onto the beach at the start of your vacation, you may look out at the flat water and think it&rsquo;s completely safe. That could be the case, but you never want to assume it&rsquo;s safe. You want to KNOW that it&rsquo;s safe. We want to show you the different Beach Warning Flags and their meaning.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Green &ndash; Low Hazard&nbsp;&nbsp;
If you look up and see a green flag flying high above the bright white sand, it&rsquo;s calm conditions, but you should always exercise caution.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Yellow &ndash; Medium Hazard&nbsp;&nbsp;
The yellow flag is the most familiar on Panama City Beach, but that doesn&rsquo;t mean you can expect the same surf every time it&rsquo;s yellow. A yellow flag indicates moderate surf and currents; exercise caution. Currents can be hazardous because you cannot always see them.&nbsp;
Red &ndash; High Hazard&nbsp;
A red flag means high surf and strong currents. Even if you are a strong swimmer, this surf could be challenging for you&mdash;exercise extreme caution.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Red Over Red &ndash; Water closed.&nbsp;
The water is closed to the public if you see two red flags flying. Often during this hazardous surf, police vehicles patrol the beach to ensure no one is getting in the water.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Purple &ndash; Dangerous Marine Life&nbsp;
A purple flag means that there is dangerous marine life in the water. It doesn&rsquo;t mean you will see shark-infested waters when you walk onto the beach; you may not even see anything. Most likely, this means there are jellyfish or stingrays in the water. A purple flag will fly in conjunction with another flag that will indicate the current surf conditions.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Rip Currents can also be hazardous, and you may not be able to recognize them or even see them at all. Rip currents account for 80% of lifeguard rescues.&nbsp;&nbsp;
We encourage you to stay aware and check the flags several times while at the beach because conditions may change as the day progresses. If you see someone struggling in dangerous surf, you should never get in to help them; if you see someone in trouble, get help from a lifeguard or call 911.&nbsp;&nbsp;
